Restoring a C.B. Macdonald masterpiece

As we begin a brand New Year, we are excited to tell you about a new golf course that we recently broke ground on in the Midwest. It’s one that we’ve thought about for years, and one that people have written about for decades. Golf Channel has called it “The best course you’ll never play.” But that was before anyone knew we would build it.

It’s called The Lido.

The Lido Golf Club - designed by C.B. Macdonald - was formed on the shores of Long Island in 1914. It was touted by many at the time of its opening to be comparable in shot quality to Pine Valley and National Golf Links. Historians have described it as one of the greatest golf courses ever created. Sadly, the course was demolished by the U.S. Navy during World War II. Ever since it disappeared, the promise of The Lido has intrigued many as one of the great lost wonders of the golf world.

We are excited to announce that The Lido will soon be brought back to life.

We have hired Tom Doak and Renaissance Golf to restore The Lido in the sand dunes of Central Wisconsin, just north of Sand Valley resort. As Michael has said “This is not a design project ‘inspired’ by The Lido. Our aim is to restore The Lido.”

We hope you’ll become as excited about this project as we are, and we welcome you to visit our new website
TheLido.com to learn more and sign up for construction updates and insights from Tom Doak and our development team.
