STROKES

Dave Baysden is the artist whose paintings of Dream Golf courses adorn the cover of this book. Throughout the past 18 months, he’s combined his love of art with his passion for golf, sketching windswept fairways while playing that capture the scenes and spirit of the game.

Every golfer paints a picture in their head while playing. Often, they’re imagining their next shot, seeing a ball flight that all too often doesn’t match the projected vision. Other times, their minds are replaying an approach shot that landed softly and nestled tight to the pin. For Dave Baysden, these envisioned scenes materialize into the physical. By sketching while he plays, Baysden says he more wholly engages with the immutable essence of the game, immersing himself in its natural surroundings in ways that deeply connect with his artistic expression.

“I was invited to play Bandon last fall with a group of photographers, and being out there with these guys made me want to also produce something each day,” explains Baysden. His goal was to create more than evanescent memories—he wanted something that captured, tangibly, the emotions and feelings he experienced while playing Bandon Dunes.
