more golf coming to bandon

It doesn’t have a name (yet), but there’s no question in Mike Keiser’s mind that the next gem at Bandon Dunes could be something truly special. “You could say I was enthralled,” says Keiser. “There are incredible long views. It really has so much potential.”

Keiser is talking about a new short course at the resort located between the first hole of Bandon Trails and the ocean to the west. The architects have been hired—the team of Rod Whitman, Dave Axland, and Keith Cutten—though no timeline is in place for an opening.

One thing is very clear: the land is incredible, and Keiser is confident Whitman, Axland, and Cutten will untap it. The group walked the site in the final months of 2022, and everyone came away excited by what they had seen, from the stunning routing to the incredible potential holes.

Keiser, known for his personal scale of grading conceptual holes during planning, says the property abounds with limitless opportunity for great golf. Yes, that means almost unheard-of scores—think 8s and 9s—on Keiser’s scale out of 10. “Words don’t really do the site justice,” Keiser says.

“There are incredible long views. It really has so much potential.”
