the bunkers
at bandon
By jeff marsh

Capturing a course’s soul. That’s what photographer Jeff Marsh attempts every time he sets foot at Bandon. And for Marsh, who has come to the resort four times for various projects, the soul of a course can often be found in its bunkers. And heaven knows, Bandon’s six courses have their fair share of sandy hazards, many of which define the strategies of a particular hole.
“I think you have to capture the unique course architecture in its natural setting, as well as the elements,” Marsh explains. That means blowing sand or finding a golfer trying to extricate themselves from a wayward hazard.
“Capturing bunkers properly at the Bandon courses gives the viewer a sense of the scale of the property,” Marsh explains. “We often say, this picture doesn’t do it justice, but it’s a disservice to the resort to not give your best effort.”
And, as you can see from the resulting photos over the next few pages, Marsh always gives it his all.
